So what is it that bothers people most about this... there seems to be more than one issue going on. In competition is it degrading to lose, fairly? Should they give up points to make the other team feel better? How is that fair. It sounds like they weren't hurling insults at them or telling them they were worthless. Anyone who has ever played any type of sport know that you go out and play as hard as you can every time. What coach gets his team ready by telling them to go out and intentionally door poorly? I think you should apologize for poor behavior, not for being more skilled in a competition. It's a game, not life.

at first i thought, its not a big deal, those girls need to suck it up and play better if they don't want to get clobbered like that. but then, i heard about them leaving their starters in and full court pressing late in the 4th quarter, not to mention that these girls have learning disabilities. this was a little much.

I think its crappy and reflects a lack in judgement to coach your team to trash another team that is clearly less able to complete than your team. However, I don't know if its right to fire him over it. I mean, as a coach you want your team to do its best and win. As a human being, you want to teach them that winning and being a good competitor doesn't have to mean that you degrade and humiliate your opponents. Its a tough call.

Good stuff. I think that a postmodern perversion of the term "tolerance" is at the root of the issue. There's a significant difference between simply allowing someone else their view, and making the claim that all views are equally valid and equally true (after all, what is truth?).

The gospel is certainly going to offend, and while we need not go out of our way to make it more offensive, we also need to ensure that we don't succumb to the culture by maiming it beyond recognition in the name of political correctness.

Two things.
First of all, it is amazing what one can learn about a person by reading his/her writing. Being a writer (particularly of blogs, memoirs, personal essays, etc) is like building a house with glass walls....and I'm looking in on your life with the nod of a proud (older) sister. I'm sayin' to myself "Look at that kid Rustin. He's alright."

Secondly, as I begin the self-searching process of preparing for marriage, it's great to witness examples of what such commitment really means. I must admit that when you mentioned the responsibilities you originally thought a Christian husband should have, my uber-independent side cringed. I thought "I'm not sure I really want to be subjected to that". But your realization that your real responsibility is be selfless and sacrificing, encouraging your wife to love Jesus, helped me understand that it doesn't have to be a matter of dominance and submission. It's just a matter of being accountability partners, following Christ, motivated by love.
Now THAT'S what I'm talkin' 'bout!

I found this post, cause one of mine was auto linked to yours.

the greatest thing that I can do as a husband for my wife is to fall more in love with Jesus every day and encourage her to do the same. I have to realize that I will never be able to love my wife in the way that God has by sending his son Jesus to die so that we might be restored into a right relationship with him.

That is beautiful in simplicity.
