Who are we? Well, we are Rustin, Amanda, and Vincent Rawlings and as some of you may know, we just have a lot to say! We hope that this blog will give you a little window into our lives, but more so it will give us a forum and an outlet for unfolding and releasing the plethora of thoughts and passions that encompass our brains on a daily basis.

We have been married a little over a year now and have just recently moved to the East side of Houston!

Rustin just finished his first (and last) year of teaching. While it was a growing experience for him, let’s just say it was also quite a stumbling block (when you want to punch 6th graders on a daily basis, you probably shouldn’t be a teacher). So, after heroically working his hardest to endure potentially the worst year of his life, Rustin is now passionately starting a part-time position with our church, Kaleo. His position is the Outreach Intern where he is playing the crucial role of connecting the outside world with the church (Jesus). To further this mission, Rustin is also pursuing a part-time job where he can intentionally build relationships and simply care for people.

Amanda just finished her first (of many many more) year of teaching and LOVED it! She enjoys all of the relationships she has built with both her students and co-workers! She is working at YES Prep Public Schools as a 9th grade Biology teacher and a 7th-9th art teacher. She is incredibly passionate about YES’ vision of serving and educating the inner-city kids of Houston and getting them to college. For many of her students, going to college will be a first in their family. She met her 9th graders for the first time this summer. They are broken, angry, and jaded by the world but she hopes that she can be a constant light to them. She will also serve this year as the Service Coordinator for her school where she will hopefully excite and instill a passion in all students to serve, love, and learn from all people through community service. She is also ridiculously excited about helping her husband start his nonprofit as yet another way to serve the broken and neglected people of Houston.

Vincent just finished his first (but certainly not his last) adventure to the gas station in the car with Rustin in our new neighborhood. In the future, he hopes to eventually establish a relationship with the pup next door as she cries a lot, but for now, he simply enjoys leisurely naps in the long grass. Occasionally though (when not sleeping) he enjoys creeping like a jungle cat, chasing anyone around the house, and eating Twizzlers (his favorite food) with Rustin. When no one is around, he has been getting into the trash but he is working on self-discipline by banishing himself to the guest bathroom when he is in trouble.
